DALLAS (AUGUST 7, 2013) – It all came down to five square meters and a lot of lipstick but Mary Kay Inc., with the help of Eyecon Studios, set the Guinness World Record® achievement for the world’s Largest Makeup Painting. The finished artwork measured 56.5 square meters, or 608 square feet, besting the minimum of 51 square meters.
The world record attempt took 10 artists about 1,000 hours over 16 days to complete, not including 40 hours of product and materials testing and 60 hours to create the design, which is a tribute to Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary.
The completed 8’ x 76’ painting featured more than 3,500 Mary Kay® makeup products including Mary Kay® TimeWise® Matte-Wear® Liquid Foundation, Mary Kay® Creme Lipstick, Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color powdered shadows, Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color, Mary Kay® Eye Primer and 300 Mary Kay® makeup brushes.
“We wanted to celebrate Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary in a big, visual way and the opportunity to set the Guinness World Records title with the biggest painting made out of makeup products seemed only fitting,” said Sheryl Adkins-Green, Chief Marketing Officer for Mary Kay Inc. “The mural is a tribute to the limitless opportunities Mary Kay provides to women around the world along with the innovation and creativity that has always been a part of our culture.”
The Guinness World Records certificate was presented at Mary Kay’s annual convention known as Seminar which recognizes members of the independent sales force for their achievements while also providing education, inspiration and motivation. The painting’s design was inspired by the event’s theme, “One Woman Can™,” which pays tribute to the company Mary Kay envisioned 50 years ago that would create an unparalleled opportunity for women to achieve their own dreams because “One Woman Can™” change the world.
Mary Kay’s first Seminar in 1964 was held in the company’s warehouse where 200 attendees dined on chicken cooked by Mary Kay Ash herself. This year, nearly 50,000 people attended the event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas generating an economic impact of $49.4 million for the city according to the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.
