DALLAS, May 21, 2013 – With 175,000 makeover contest entries received from nearly 30 countries, the Mary Kay® One Woman CanTM Makeover Contest is changing looks and changing lives for women around the world.
The One Woman CanTM Makeover Contest is part of a year-long celebration of Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary which culminates on Sept. 13, 2013, the anniversary of the day Mary Kay Ash founded the company. The global celebration launched on March 8, 2013, International Women’s Day, with the first-ever Mary Kay® Global Makeover Day, an event where 24 international Mary Kay markets hosted the most number of makeovers in 24 hours. Nearly 50,000 makeovers were logged during the record-setting day.
Along with the record number of entries for the One Woman CanTM Makeover Contest, Mary Kay also saw the highest number of worldwide sales in the company’s 50-year history following the Global Makeover Day.
“What better way to celebrate Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary than having the biggest makeup party in the world,” said Sheryl Adkins-Green, chief marketing office for Mary Kay Inc. “The Global Makeover Day was an exciting way to connect Mary Kay brand fans from around the world as we kicked-off our biggest makeover contest ever.”
The contest is now open for online voting through May 28. Entrants can share their makeover and ask friends and family to vote for them. The top 250 vote getters become finalists from which 50 winners in the U.S. will be selected to receive a $5,000 grant to a charity of their choice, subject to sponsor’s final approval, that supports women and children. One grand prize winner from the U.S. will also receive a $5,000 international vacation to a destination of their choice.
“March was a record sales month for Mary Kay, but know that our company is in a great position to have record breaking months several times throughout the year,” said David Holl, Mary Kay Inc. president and CEO. “We are celebrating our 50th anniversary, and our company has never been stronger. Our international markets account for more than 70 percent of our revenue, while the Mary Kay opportunity in the U.S. continues to appeal to women from a wide variety of backgrounds from Gen-Y to Baby Boomers.”
Winners of the Mary Kay® One Woman CanTM Makeover Contest will be announced later this summer.
