At the height of a worldwide pandemic, Wuhan – a Chinese city of more than 11 million people – was infamous around the world as the original COVID-19 epicenter. One day after the city went into lockdown, Mary Kay China announced that it had authorized the Mary Kay China Charity Fund of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation to urgently donate RMB 1 million to the Amity Foundation, an independent Chinese social organization dedicated to public health, social welfare, disaster relief and other philanthropic initiatives.

The funds secured procurement of medical supplies to the Wuhan area including more than 6,000 face shields for frontline healthcare workers at the Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine and Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University. Within a critical time period, a second batch of medical supplies with five tons of disinfectant was delivered in Xiaogan City, Hubei Province to combat the spread of the virus. Less than two weeks later, 50 sets of positive pressure air respirators with hoods and accessories were donated to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University to ensure the safety of medical personnel.

As a global COVID-19 response partner, we are so proud of the swift and immediate support from Mary Kay China to lend a helping hand amid an unprecedented worldwide health crisis. To date, Mary Kay has contributed nearly $10 million (USD) worldwide in monetary donations, product donations and distribution support in response to the pandemic.

To all who made this effort in Wuhan possible – we are sincerely grateful! And to our heroes – the frontline healthcare workers who courageously and tirelessly continue to work to save lives – a heartfelt thank you from all of us at Mary Kay!
