Mary Kay partners with Look Good Feel Better to help women manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
The story behind Look Good Feel Better (LGFB), a charitable organization established by the Personal Care Products Council, started with one patient. A woman grappling with cancer treatment experienced dramatic appearance-related side effects which caused her to be depressed and self-conscious. So much so – she would not venture outside her hospital room. A physician organized a makeover for the woman and with the help of beauty professionals and it transformed not only her look but also her outlook. She felt happier, less burdened and laughed for the first time in weeks!
That was in 1987 and since then, LGFB has provided a free, public service support program to help people with cancer dealing with the appearance-related side effects of treatment. The program teaches beauty techniques including lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling.
Thousands of volunteer beauty professionals donate their time to the organization. In fact, Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants make up approximately 50 percent of the LGFB volunteer team, demonstrating the unwavering support of one of our company’s philanthropic goals: to help women affected by cancer. In 2019, Mary Kay Canada General Manager Lynda Rose was named Chair of the Board of Directors for LGFB.
Mary Kay is proud to partner with the organization in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom with volunteer support, financial and in-kind donations and events.
